NSW Government has waived licence fees for tradies in a bid to help businesses survive a downturn in business due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced the $50 million government scheme on Wednesday 15th April 2020. It is expected to provide financial relief to around 200,00 licence holders within the trades and construction sectors, saving builders $465 and contractors $235.
The scheme will run for 12 months and will be automatically applied for any new applications and licence renewals.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any discount or refund for businesses that have already renewed their licence or paid for 3 or 5 years in advance.

- Scheme will run for 12 months
- Fees will be waived for the minimum renewal term
- This scheme does not apply for change of class, changes to the licence or replacement of the licence.

- Home building contractor licences (From 15 April 2020)
- Trade or specialist contractor licences (From 15 April 2020)
- Home building: Qualified Supervisor Certificates – Building supervisor certificate (From 20 April 2020)
- Home building: tradesperson certificates (From 20 April 2020)
- Asbestos removal licences and asbestos assessor licence (from 15 April 2020)
- Demolition licence (from 15 April 2020)
