2017 Construction Technology Summit

I had an amazing week last week after being invited to speak at the 2017 Construction Technology Summit in Melbourne. I was lucky enough to have attended last years inaugural event which was an excellent display of the level of influence that digital technology was having on the industry. After the event, I mentioned to the organisers that the only thing missing was the voice of the sub-contractor and the message about the critical role that they play in the construction eco-system. Well, this year I was honoured to get the chance to tell the story of the guys at the coalface!

The two-day summit hosted by Aconnex and the Victorian State Government was all about redefining the future of the Construction Industry and had some of the best minds in the country in attendance. From software developers to Tier 1 executives, we all gathered to hear the state of the industry and just how important technology will be in coming years.

I was stoked to see such an innovative event which shares the passion and excitement that we have at TradiePad for advancing the entire Trades and Construction Industry. It really reinforces the thoughts and visions we’ve had for years about embracing new technologies and the opportunities that presents for transforming how Tradies work on a daily basis.

“Digital technologies are transforming the way construction and infrastructure projects are designed, delivered and operated. Ideas that were conceptual only a few years ago are fast becoming best practice across the world.” 2017 CTS

I am so grateful to have been included in such an amazing lineup of digital innovators that spoke throughout the 2017 Summit. I presented a panel discussion titled “Construction Subcontractors – Evolving for Digital Construction.”

I was joined onstage by two of our local Melbourne clients, Matthew Bien, Managing Director of BN Electrical and Gavin Spokes, Director of Subterranean Solutions. The boys came along to share their story of how technology has helped their businesses evolve and grow with the help of TradiePad. Matthew explained his journey of using WorkflowMaxXero and Deputy to help streamline his job costing and payroll management, while Gavin explained how he is just starting out with using Assignar to help get his projects under control and allow him to scale.

It was invaluable for the audience to hear this information first hand and have the opportunity to interact, ask questions and really delve into how easy it was for these tradies to adapt to a new digital way of working, and the impact this has had on their operations. A huge thank you to both Matt and Gavin for taking time out of their busy work schedules to join us and help promote the positive effects technology has on the trades.
